Video Guide

This video is a complete beginner guide covering the units, gems, traits, and progression systems that matter in Anime Origins. Watch it to understand how story progression feeds into the rest of the game, then use the sections below to plan your route. Read the gems guide for farming between stages.

How Story Mode Works

Story Mode plays out in stages, each split into waves of enemies that grow stronger as you advance. Between waves you earn gold, place more units, and upgrade them so your defense can handle the next push. Every few waves a mini boss or full boss appears and demands burst damage. Check the meta units page for strong carries.

Completing a stage for the first time grants clear rewards such as Gems and Materials, and every stage has milestone objectives for bonus loot. Replaying cleared stages is the fastest way to farm specific materials for evolutions. See the evolution guide to understand how materials are spent.

How to Progress

Progress flows from the easiest stages to harder ones, with difficulty ramping up in each new area. Build a balanced team of damage, support, and economy units before pushing into new territory, because weak teams get overwhelmed quickly. Review the team building guide before you advance.

Each area ends with a boss wave that tests your single-target damage and ability timing. Save your strongest actives for the boss, keep a stun or slow available, and do not overspend early. Secret units such as Alucard can lock bosses down with Coffin Trap for seven seconds.

If you hit a wall, farm earlier stages for Gems and EXP, then upgrade and evolve your team before retrying. Feeding EXP to units raises stats quickly, while evolution unlocks new abilities. The gold guide covers the economy behind both.

1

Clear early stages

Beat the first areas to unlock new maps, earn Gems, and collect basic Materials.

2

Build a balanced team

Include damage, support, and economy units so every wave type is covered.

3

Push to the boss wave

Advance until the area boss appears, saving actives and traits for the fight.

4

Farm and upgrade

Replay cleared stages for EXP and Materials, then level and evolve your carries.

5

Clear Legend Stages

Once your team is strong, attempt Legend Stages for exclusive artifact drops.

💡 Boss waves resist most crowd control — pair high burst damage with slow or stun effects for the fastest kills.

Stage Types and Rewards

Story Mode mixes standard defense stages with special mission types, and each one drops different rewards. The table below summarizes the stage types you will meet and what they give. Material drops vary by stage, so farm the one that matches your evolution needs. Check the evolution guide for what to farm.

Stage TypeWhat It IsMain Rewards
Standard StageWave defense with regular enemiesGold, EXP, Materials
Boss WaveStage-ending fight against a bossGems, rare Materials

Legend StageHigh-difficulty area finaleArtifacts, Gems
⚠️ Legend Stages are much harder than normal stages — do not attempt them until your team is fully upgraded.

Rewards You Can Earn

Every stage in Story Mode pays out a mix of currency and progression items. Gems fund summons and shop purchases, Materials drive evolutions, and EXP levels your units. Knowing which reward to chase saves time, since each stage leans toward different drops. See the gems guide for gem sources.

Beyond currency, story progression unlocks the systems that power endgame content. Milestones grant Trait Rerolls and Stat Prisms, while Legend Stages drop artifacts used to craft special units. Plan your route around the reward you need most. The artifacts guide explains how artifacts work.

Gems

Spend on summons, shop items, and the daily spin rewards.

Materials

Evolve units and unlock new active and passive abilities.

EXP

Feed to units to raise stats and reach evolution requirements.

Artifacts

Legend Stage drops like the KGR set, used to craft Stark.

Trait Rerolls

Milestone rewards that let you roll new traits on your team.

Gold

Earned every wave to place, upgrade, and reposition units.

💡 The KGR artifact set drops from Karakura Town's Legend Stages and is needed to craft Stark.

Story Mode Tips

Story Mode is designed to teach you the game, so treat every stage as practice. Try different unit lineups, watch how waves path, and learn where bosses spawn, because success here prepares you for the harsher economies of Raids and Infinite Mode. Check the team building guide for lineup ideas.

Do not neglect your economy early, since income from economy units and traits like Looting compounds across waves. A stronger economy lets you field a bigger army by the boss fight and beats a slightly stronger unit in most stages. Read the support units guide for economy picks.

  • Spend gold on upgrades before placing new units in the early waves.
  • Keep one stun or slow unit for boss waves in every stage.
  • Replay the hardest stage you can clear for the best material farm.
  • Complete story missions for bonus Gems and Trait Rerolls.
  • Use the daily spin before long sessions for free rerolls and shards.

Legend Stages and Beyond

Legend Stages are the hardest content in Story Mode, with tuned enemies and bosses that punish weak teams. They are also the main source of the KGR artifact set, which you need to craft the unit Stark. Clear them consistently by upgrading carries, rerolling traits, and using proper supports. See the Stark guide for the full recipe.
